Jamaica

Menu: Jerk chicken, sweet plantains, and beef patties | Recipe Source: butterbeready.com, seriouseats.com

I took my culinary trip to Jamaica over Thanksgiving break and ended up cooking for 8 people in total. Trying to get everything on the table in a timely fashion meant that I didn’t have time to take very many photos, so when a packet of Jamaican curry powder that I forgot to delete from my cart showed up in my box of Amazon items this week, it was such a happy accident. Of the 5 things I made for Jamaica, the beef patties tied with the jerk chicken for my favorite menu item. Earthy, spicy, fragrant, and warm, they’re the perfect savory hand-pie and an absolute breeze to whip up. That said, intrepid chefs beware: thanks to the addition of turmeric and curry powder (both delicious) to the dough, beef patties are a complete and utter menace to your rolling pin, assembling surface, and hands. Everything gets stained a bright, vibrant, stubborn yellow, but trust me- it’s completely worth it.
